Teaching Management

Life long learners - . That's what we are trying to turn out of our universities and colleges. What does that mean? How do we achieve it? In some small part I believe it comes from teaching students to pay attention to what is going on around them. To learn lessons from what they observe and engage in everyday. Or as one of my students once said "You've ruined watching movies for me. Now I'm constantly applying the theories we talked about in class to what is happening in the movie." One small step for management theory one big impact on a student's life.

My intent for this blog is to keep track of those little examples we see in current media that illustrate the theories and models we teach. As a management professor you have probably played a clip that had you chuckling, but this group of students doesn't get. I personally think Star Wars and Darth Vader is timeless, but I am getting less and less belly laughs at "Chad Vader - Day Store Manager." At some point George Lucas and I will have to acknowledge that these students were not even a twinkle in their parents eye when Star Wars came out. The hot examples of today, will be old school tomorrow.  This blog is a way to keep current and constantly share and update examples.
